Digital Dentistry

Dr. Smith has designed a state-of-the-art dental office in Oro Valley, AZ that focuses on your comfort while also helping improve your oral health. We utilize many types of advanced technology at Smith Dentalworks that help us make your treatment more comfortable and stress-free.

Here are some of the ways that digital dentistry can improve your experience:

Digital X-Rays

Digital X-rays are an invaluable tool that allows Dr. Smith to detect many concerns that she wouldn’t have been able to identify with a dental exam alone. This type of imaging allows her to pinpoint specific issues such as infection or bone loss so she can recommend the appropriate treatment procedures.

Digital X-rays are readily available and provide a clear picture of what is going on internally with your teeth and jawbone. These images are also easy to share with any other providers who Dr. Smith may be working with.

Many patients are concerned about radiation. Our digital imaging emits 90% less radiation than x-rays taken with film. It is also safer for the environment as it doesn’t require any abrasive chemicals to develop.

Digital Impressions

If you’ve ever had an impression taken for a crown or retainer, you may remember how uncomfortable and messy it was while you waited for the impression material to set inside your mouth.

Digital technology has streamlined taking impressions because now we can scan an image of your teeth with no goopy impression material required. We utilize digital impressions for many different types of dental procedures such as the fabrication of crowns, veneers, bridges, night guards, retainers, and even Invisalign®️ clear aligners.

Laser Dentistry

The Solea®️ laser makes many procedures more comfortable for patients. It replaces the outdated drill and is pain free. This laser is also especially useful for those managing gum disease. During gum therapy, the laser combines concentrated light and heat to remove diseased tissue with precision without affecting healthy surrounding tissue. It also sterilizes and seals the area we are treating, which accelerates the healing process and eliminates the need for sutures.

The laser can also assist in a cosmetic procedure called gum contouring by removing excess gum tissue that may be hiding your teeth and causing a “gummy” smile. Our dental laser streamlines the process, making it far more comfortable, with no bleeding or stitches.
