Invisalign

Crooked or misaligned teeth can significantly diminish the appearance of your smile. This may make you self-conscious or cause you to hide your teeth when you interact with other people. Perhaps you’ve considered straightening your teeth, but the idea of wearing traditional braces feels unappealing. Invisalign®️ offers a solution for orthodontic treatment using clear aligners to straighten your teeth instead of metal braces. This is an ideal option for adults wanting to align their teeth discreetly.

How Invisalign Works

Invisalign aligners are made of plastic and customized to ensure a secure fit. This makes them comfortable to wear with no pokey brackets or wires to worry about. They are also virtually invisible since they are clear. You can easily remove your aligners for brushing, flossing, and eating. This means you’ll still enjoy all the foods you love during your treatment.

You will wear your aligners at least 22 hours each day and change them every two weeks. Each aligner is progressively tightened, and over time your smile becomes straighter. You will have appointments with Dr. Smith every few weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. However, Invisalign doesn’t require as many check-in visits as braces do. Unlike braces, you do not need to come into the office each time you change aligners. You will often be able to do this step at home.

Straighter Teeth Can Improve Your Oral Health

While your main motivation for straightening your teeth may be to achieve a beautiful smile, did you know that your crooked teeth can also impact your dental health?

When teeth overlap or are misaligned, they are difficult to clean. If you can’t brush and floss properly, your risk of developing dental concerns such as cavities, tooth decay, and periodontal (gum) disease increases. A straighter smile not only looks better but also makes preventing these oral health conditions easier.

If your bite is not aligned correctly, it can also cause problems for your jaw joint and could result in a painful jaw condition known as temporomandibular disorder (TMD). This disorder can be very debilitating and can result in headaches, tenderness when chewing, and bruxism (clenching and grinding your teeth).

If you are already noticing any of these problems related to crooked teeth, Smith Dentalworks can help. In addition to our Invisalign treatments, we offer general, preventive, and cosmetic dentistry as well as services including implants, crowns, and more. These can be performed in addition to your Invisalign or, if clear aligners are not suited to your unique situation, we can discuss how our other options can help you.

Is Invisalign right for me?

Dr. Smith is a preferred Invisalign provider, which means she can verify if this is the right treatment for your needs. During a consultation she will provide a complete examination. This includes x-rays and photos of your teeth.

If you decide Invisalign is the best procedure for you, Dr. Smith uses 3D technology to create your treatment plan and your first set of aligners. She will even be able to show you what your completed smile will look like.

If Invisalign isn’t right for your needs, Dr. Smith can recommend other treatment options that will help you achieve your goals.

Am I too old for orthodontics?

Some people associate orthodontic treatment with children and teenagers, but the truth is that 1 in 5 orthodontic patients is an adult. This means that you are not alone in seeking a solution for crooked teeth. You deserve a smile that you will be proud to show off and Invisalign is a discreet option for adults who want to improve the alignment of their teeth.
