Veneers

Are you living with chipped teeth that diminish your smile? Maybe you have gaps between your teeth causing you to feel self-conscious or stains or discoloration that you couldn’t get rid of with teeth whitening. Porcelain veneers can help eliminate all of these concerns.

What are Veneers?

Dental veneers are thin shells of porcelain that cover the front of your teeth. They are bonded to the tooth to correct certain cosmetic issues.

They can help improve:

  • Irregularly shaped teeth
  • Staining or discoloration
  • Excessive wear or chipping
  • Slight misalignment
  • Spaces between teeth
  • Tooth size discrepancies

What Are the Advantages of Choosing Porcelain Veneers?

Veneers are bonded directly to your teeth to give your smile a more uniform appearance. They can be custom shaded to brighten your teeth, and they are stain resistant. They won't discolor at the rate of a natural tooth, which means you don’t have to think about whitening your teeth. Compared to composite resin veneers, porcelain lasts longer and is more durable. They also can change the size and shape of your teeth, which allows you and Dr. Smith to create your ideal smile.

Placing Porcelain Veneers

When you choose porcelain veneers to improve the aesthetics of your teeth, you will be able to enjoy your new smile in a matter of weeks. This procedure requires two appointments. At your first visit, Dr. Smith will prepare your teeth. We usually remove a small amount of enamel during the tooth preparation process. We will preserve your tooth structure as much as possible. During this appointment, we will also create temporaries for you to wear while a custom dental lab fabricates your veneers. Wearing your temporary veneers gives you both the look and feel of your new smile to test out. This also lets you identify any adjustments or changes you’d like to make.

After one to two weeks, when your final restorations are ready, you’ll return to Smith Dentalworks to have them placed. Dr. Smith will make any adjustments that are needed to ensure that your bite functions correctly and you’ve achieved your desired results.

Once your veneers are in place, you can brush, floss, and eat as you normally would. They are just as strong, and sometimes even more durable, than natural tooth enamel.

Are Veneers the Right Choice for Me?

If you thought that porcelain veneers were only for Hollywood actors, think again. Modern dentistry has made veneers an accessible and affordable cosmetic dentistry option for many patients. They can correct many issues at once to give you a complete smile makeover in a short period of time.

Veneers may not be suited to every patient’s needs. While they can mask minor crowding or misalignment, you may want to consider Invisalign®️ if you have severely crooked teeth. This type of issue can affect not only how your smile looks but also your overall oral health. Additionally, if you grind your teeth, veneers may not be the best choice for you as grinding can damage the porcelain over time.

We are committed to informative dental care and if veneers are not suited to your needs, we will discuss other options with you.
